It's Halloween again and I'm wondering what to be. Everything seems so blah this year. The nurse, the naughty schoolgirl, the devil's temptress, the police officer; they're all overdone.
This year I think I am going to try something new: Burlesque. I recently discovered the subculture of burlesque and, as a bigger girl, I've got to admit that I found this world to be very intriguing. Never before had I seen girls like me get up onstage and celebrate their bodies.
As I sat in the audience and watched my first burlesque show last year, I began to realize that every girl that performed had one thing in common: they were liberating themselves from themselves. Some had been doing it for years while others were doing it for the first time. But every single one was glowing after the show. I had to try it myself. But of course I chickened out and called in sick the night I was supposed to perform before a live audience.
But this year's Halloween is giving me the perfect opportunity to get over my shyness and discover what it was that made those girls glow that night. After a week of looking online for burlesque costumes plus size, I finally found the perfect one. It's a white and red fringed dress that, although not too revealing, still accentuates my curvaceous figure. I've been parading around the house and in front of the mirror for the past two days and can't wait to go to the Halloween parties this year!
