HM Forces recruitment with a criminal record?

This question refers to HM forces, and is therfor a BRITISH ONLY question.

I have a criminal record for minor crimes, from when I was younger. I am now reformed. However, in 2005 I recieved an 8 month sentence for not attending my community service (I was resentence for the original offence of forgery). I have no violent or sexual convictions but, because of my sentence, I automatically recieved a ban on using firearms for 5 years.

Can this be waived in order for me to join the forces? I have previous experience in recruit training for RAF Police, but I DYP'd (voluntarily discharged) because even the RAFP didn't want to be RAFP! This was back in 1999. I need to sort something out quick since I am currently aged 28 and the upper recruitment age is fast approaching!

there should be possibilities because army has got a lot of jobs,mechanics,chefs,drivers, physical training instructors,just to name a few. i dont know how infantry/artillerie handles your ban on using firearms but you can ask them.
