Different Types Of Police Equipment
Though police equipment, in an overall way, consists of weapons, defensive armor, tactical wears like boots and apparel, and equipment for communicating and recording, there are a lot of specialized equipment with minor variations that police need to discharge different types of duties. police equipment for crime detection, riot control, communication, etc, are all different from each other. At the same time, as rioters will be mostly unarmed civilians, there are severe restrictions on the use of lethal weapons on them. As such, policemen have to give a lot of importance to personal safety while handling rioters.
Among the various police equipment for self-protection during riot control are riot helmets, riot shields, gas masks, face shields and visors, reinforced vests, kneepads, and neck protectors. Riot helmets typically have a reinforced padding with a chinstrap and a visor that can be hinged up. Some helmets will also have an additional neck protector at the back while more sophisticated riot helmets will have two layers of visors and ear pieces. Gas masks used as riot protection police equipment may be a simple nose and mouth-covering pad that will filter off air pollutants, or it may be more elaborate ones that will offer protection to the eyes and other parts of the face.
Police equipment used for controlling the rioting mob is mostly non-lethal weapons and predominant among these is a baton which is nothing other than a short stick wielded expertly by policemen. They may also use whips, tasers, tear gas, and plastic bullets discharged from a special type of gun to break up a crowd. Pepper sprays and water cannons that can squirt water under high pressure are the other police equipment used for dispersing a mob.
