Law enforcement question for police officers-how do u set up your duty belt.?
I have the following that needs to go on it: handcuff case,taser,oc, asp,radio, flashlight, another handcuff case, firearm, mag holder, glove holder (latex)
Generally there are some fixed theories about how to do it. But, u need to be able to access it all. I would first start with your firearm and assuming you are right handed this would go on your right hip. Your mag holders usually go in the front next to your belt buckle and I have seen folks use both right and left side. If you carry your magazines horizontal carry them to the right side, if vertical then the left. I prefer having both handcuffs in one case, because it takes up less room on the belt. If your stuck with two then position them so that you can reach one case with either hand. Radio is usually worn opposite the firearm. I carry my oc either in front of my firearm or behind it, try both. Carry glove pouch in the small of back. Try never to carry anything in the small of your back that is hard! when you fall or fight someone and you land on it, you can seriously hurt your back!!!. If your Taser is a belt mounted model then I have seen it on the left side in front of the radio or if it mounts to the hip then on the left side hip. Never have it on the same side as your gun as under stress Police have shot suspects with a gun when they meant to Tase them. If you have a little flashlight then that should go on your left as well because you draw it with your non-dominant hand. If you are just issued a big police maglight then get another smaller back up light. Dont forget a pair of regular patrol gloves for searching suspects and changing tires on your car, etc. A good folding knife or two should also be mandatory.
