Is there anyway to stop an investigation from going through?
I'm writing a book and I need to know if a family request it can the police stop looking into the person's murder? I just need to know if there is some kind of Injunction or something. And if there is can you please explain it.
The family request will not have much impact. legally it would have no effect. The same is true for all felony investigations. Even if there is a live victim and the victim does not want an investigation once law enforcement learns about a crime they can investigate. You must understand that the victim of a crime when you get down to it is the people of the state where the crime occurred, not just the "victim".
For example as it often happens victims of domestic abuse do not want an investigation done. If officers do learn of a domestic crime they investigate no matter what the victim says and they take the investigation information to the prosecutor (the representatives of the people of the state) who charges.
For your story it does happen all of the time. Family members do ask for an investigation to stop, some just want it so they can put things behind them, some because of other feelings of guilt and some because of possible involvement. We often had people with pull decide to get politicians to try force us to stop a homicide investigation, once while they were are on TV complaining that nothing is being done.
