a. Can't really answer this in full. But will say, the evaluater must
know the field.

b. Computer centers of the sort you schedule time on are mostly
a thing of the past. There are a few exceptions like
supercomputing clusters, but this is rare these days. Scheduling in
IT is really about scheduling man hours, scheduling software
updates so as to minimize interruptions and the like.

c. Can't answer this one. I suspect it doesn't to that great an
extent.

d. Depends on the size of your business, and its dependancy
on the software in question. If your business revolves around
the software, develop it in house and maintain the human
infrastructure to keep it maintained. If you don't have a
programming team, and you want some piece of non mission
critical software it may be a good idea to contract it out.

In general software you contract out will involve you having less
control over i - iv.

Its also very important to keep in mind that in house or out of
house development is like making a wish to a genie. You will
likely get something close to what you asked for, but it may not
be what you really want. I much prefer iterative development with
prototypes, and frequent input from end users, to monolithic
development to an exact spec. The downside of iterative
development, is that your development is less predictable, the
upside is that in the end you get what you want rather than what
you asked for. Doesn't matter if a product was delivered on time,
if it doesn't do what you really want/need it to do.

When I say end user, I don't mean supervisors, although there
input is important as well. I mean real end users, secretaries,
sales clerks, stock traders, X ray techs, who ever uses that
software directly in day to day work. The "it would be nice if
I could do X in one step" may save your organization person years
of time (and salary) over the life of the product.

Joining The UK Police Force

If you are thinking about a career with the UK police force you are most likely looking to find the relevant qualifications, reasons to join, or just fulfill your curiosity. The UK police force is an esteemed career that offers a rather impressive training program. While joining the force may be a little more complex in detail than outlined here, this will give you a very good start.

You can not join the UK police force if you are less than 18 years of age. Some new recruits and long term officers recommend waiting until you are 20 or so because once you make the commitment, the commitment becomes full time. The training isn't necessarily grueling, but there will be little time to explore other interests.

You can join the force at any age, provided that you meet the requirements to do so. At age 60 you will pretty much be expected to retire, so joining too late might seriously limit your options. Calculate the necessary time to complete a 2 year term of probation on top of the retirement age.

Your financial records will be checked. You can not qualify if you have any outstanding judgments or you have a current bankruptcy. The cleaner your financial history is the less likely you will be to be tempted to accept bribes or other vehicles of corruption. Joining the police force requires a reasonably clean financial history.

A previous criminal record may or may not get in your way. Each force has their own exact policies, but some minor infractions can be overlooked. Violent crimes, police orders offense, or a formal caution that was received within a range of 3 to 5 years. Minor infractions have to be nonviolent in order to be considered for the UK police force.

Naturally, your physical health will be evaluated. You want to be able to complete the physical process of training. After training you will have to be fit enough to perform the required tasks. Your eyesight will be taken into consideration as well. Most mild to moderate corrected eyesight will pass through, but each force has its own determination regarding how good your eyesight must be.

How you look will also determine whether you will be able to be part of the UK police force. Visible tattoos, or tattoos that are particularly designed to cause offense will automatically mean dismissal from the application process. The same can be said for piercings so it is recommended that you take them off for the interview.
