Any police scanner users out there?
I have a cheap 1000 channel Radio Shack police scanner. I notice that on some police agencies when I am listening to their radio traffic, I can only hear the dispatcher. When the officers out in the field answer back all I hear is low beeping noises. Also sometimes when there is a big situation the I hear the dispatcher say that she is opening up a "patch" when this happens, I can hear bothe parties talking, dispatcher and officers. When the "patch" is cleared, it's back to only the dispatcher. any answers please.

Sounds like you might be listening to a trunked system that is not properly programmed into the radio. Try the website listed above and you will be able to find help that is specific to your scanner. I have a PRO-96 and PRO-164 and this site has never failed to help me when I get a little confused.
