Madeleine - another possible theory!?
Thinking about this last night - the following came to mind.
There is always the possibility that Madeleine had actually been murdered accidentally on the afternoon that she was reported missing.
The McCanns would then have been able to dispose of the body and clean up as best they could. They could then have gone for dinner leaving the room set up for the discovery. They sent their friend to check on the children during the meal - who only listened at the door without entering the room. They then checked and discovered Madeleine missing. They were then covered for the time that they said she disappeared. I don't get why the mother washed the toy of the childs - this is the last thing that any mother would do if a child were missing - maybe it got some blood or medicine on it that she felt would have been detected by the police.
When they hired the new hire car they may have used it to dispose of something that was used in the disposal of Madeleine - hence DNA
