Scanner Trunking and Descramble?
PLEASE I NEED YOUR HELP!! I'm so confused about about how all this trunking stuff works. Can someone please explain it to me. And this is what I'm trying to do.
I'm trying to figure out how to get the frequencies for the Jacksonville Sheriff's office(Jacksonville, FL). These frequencies are encrypted. I want to know if I can program it and buy a descrambler so I can listen in. I'm using a Radio Shack Pro-95 scanner. Do i need to buy a different scanner for this? Is it even possible?
I also want to be able to listen to Jacksonville Fire Rescue but I can not figure out how to program all this trunking stuff. If you can please tell me how to do it. It would BE REALLY appreciated if you could even provide details with exact frequencies,
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!
P.S. I wanting to do this because I'm currently in school to be a police officer and would like to listen in and see what my future has in store for me. Plus I would like to just understand this trunking stuff!
The Duval/Jax system for law enforcement is ENCRYPTED as you have found out.
1) There is NO SCANNER to descramble this.
2) There is NO EXTERNAL descrambler available
3) It is ILLEGAL in the US to descramble encrypted comms for which you are not a party.
4) Even if you purchase a radio similar to the system radios with the encryption option. Getting it programmed would violate US Law.
Duval/Jax LE is UNMONITORABLE. Sorry.
As for trunking a good explanatin is here:

Its a way to resuse frequencies over v. one set of users assigned to one frequency and the channel sitting idle for large amounts of time.
As for progamming
You need to first program the system type and system frequencies into a bank. Then program the talkgroups into a memory bank.
Think of the talkgroups as like the old channels/frequencies for each group of users from the past.
